POLICING AND COMMUNITY TRUST: CHALLENGES AND PATHWAYS IN THE UNITED STATES

The relationship between law enforcement agencies and communities in the United States has been a focal point of public discourse for decades. While police departments play a critical role in maintaining public safety, historical injustices, systemic biases, and recent high-profile incidents of misconduct have significantly eroded community trust. This article explores the challenges in fostering trust between police and communities, including issues of systemic racism, use of force, and accountability. Additionally, it examines pathways to rebuild trust, focusing on community policing, transparency, and reforms aimed at equity and justice. By addressing these challenges and promoting innovative strategies, this article highlights the importance of collaboration in achieving a more equitable and effective law enforcement system.
