Abstract

This study explores the reform of educational systems and the role of the teacher through the lens of the Prophetic Sirah of Prophet Muhammad (). In contemporary times, educational institutions faced moral decline, fragmented character formation, and increasing materialistic orientation. The Sirah presents a holistic and value-based model of education that integrates intellectual growth, spiritual purification, moral discipline, and social responsibility.

The Prophet (ﷺ), as the greatest teacher in Islamic tradition, transformed individuals and society through a comprehensive (pedagogical) methodology grounded in wisdom, compassion, gradualism, dialogue, and practical demonstration. His approach combined knowledge transmission with character building (tarbiyah), emphasizing sincerity, ethical conduct, emotional intelligence, and community cohesion. The study analytically examines key dimensions of the Makkan and Madinan periods, including mentorship, moral reform, individualized instruction, and leadership development.

Using qualitative and analytical methods, this research evaluates classical sources of Sirah alongside contemporary educational theories to propose practical reforms for modern Muslim educational institutions. It argues that sustainable reform requires redefining the teacher’s role from a mere instructor to a moral guide, mentor, and role model.

The findings suggest that integrating Prophetic principles into curriculum design, teacher training, and institutional culture can address present educational crises and contribute to holistic human development. The study concludes that the Sirah provides not only spiritual guidance but also a comprehensive pedagogical framework relevant to modern educational reform.
