EXAMPLES OF SPECIFIC CRITIQUES REGARDING THE ATTRIBUTION OF HADITHS TO SOURCES OUTSIDE THE TWO SAHIHS IN THE BOOK FAYḌ AL-QADĪR SHARḤ AL-JĀMIʿ AL-ṢAGHĪR

This research aims to conduct a detailed and analytical study of Imam Al-Manawi's critiques on Imam Al-Suyuti in his book Fayd al-Qadeer. In particular, Al-Manawi highlights issues related to attributing hadiths to sources outside of the two Sahihs (Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim), even though these hadiths are indeed found within them. Such critical analysis is of paramount importance, as it contributes to enhancing the accuracy of scholars in dealing with hadith sources and refining their judgments.
The study presents multiple examples of these critiques, seeking to understand the methodology that Al-Manawi employed in his evaluations and to identify the instances where he believed that Al-Suyuti may have overstepped the bounds of authentication or misattributed certain hadiths. This research relies on a meticulous review of primary hadith sources, such as Al-Jami' al-Saghir by Al-Suyuti and Fayd al-Qadeer by Al-Manawi, and includes a thorough analysis of the chains of transmission and the conditions of narrators in order to arrive at a scholarly judgment on the hadiths.
This study also emphasizes the significance of hadith criticism in forming an accurate understanding of the Prophetic traditions, ensuring avoidance of weak or unauthenticated narrations. Additionally, the research highlights the impact of such critiques on the science of hadith and proves beneficial for the preparation of studies and research related to the assessment and evaluation of Prophetic hadiths.
